OC Juniors – November Newsletter

Welcome to our new regular Junior Newsletter! You will receive one of these updates every month, to keep you up to speed with all things junior tennis at OC.

These newsletters will be brought to you by Alex Heath (Head Coach) and Sean Bidder (our new OC Junior Rep) but will be fueled by pics and updates from you lot - our junior
members, so please make sure you let us know if you have anything newsletter worthy for us to include!

To kick us off, we have a bit of a bumper edition this month, with updates on Dulwich Cup 2024, Junior Christmas Party 2024 and our super-exciting new junior teams initiative, starting in 2025.

Dulwich Cup 2024

What is it: An annual junior tournament between OC, Dulwich LTC, North Dulwich, Alleyns LTC. Each club puts forward 4 players (2 girls, 2 boys) in each age group; u12, u14, u16 and u18 into a knockout draw, to decide who gets the Dulwich Cup bragging rights for the year

What happened this year: OC Juniors came out on top. See table below for the winners and runners up. Photos at the bottom of the newsletter - scroll down to see the finalists with their silverware!

Junior Christmas Party

This year, our Christmas party will be held on Friday December 6th from 5pm onwards – so get that date in your diaries! The exact festivities will be confirmed nearer to the time, but expect music, games, tennis (of course!) and lots of pizzas

Junior Teams

Now for the exciting bit. From January 2025, we will be kicking off our new junior teams
initiative for our u9s, u10s, u11s, u12s, u14s and u16s. The new program will mean:

More fixtures for all teams
Additional tournaments hosted at OC
Team kit
Presentation evenings!

To find out more about these exciting developments, and how to get involved, then please come to our OC Juniors Team Presentation evening from 6.30pm on Friday 6th December (conveniently, right after the Christmas party!)

Junior Social Super Saturdays
We are planning to kick off a new Monthly Junior Social Super Saturday, which will be a
monthly social event for juniors, held at the club from 4pm one Saturday a month. These will be coach-led events for selected age groups. The timetable for this will be released in the next edition of this newsletter at the start of December.

Coaching Challenge of the Month

Each month, our coaching team will be giving you either a tennis tip or challenge! This month, it is the 'Drop Shot Challenge' to see who has the best hands from the back of the court. To inspire you, watch Carlos Alcaraz have a go a his own (advanced version!) of a drop shot challenge - see link below:

Our challenge to you though, is this: Can you hit a drop shot, from the baseline, that lands in the service boxes and stays in the service boxes for 3 bounces or more? We will want video proof, if so!
