OC Club Champs. 2024 - Sun 9th (Day 2) Order of Play

Dear all,

After a great day of tennis and a few titanic battles, tomorrow sees a focus on R64 of the Men's Singles, including first matches for a few of the top guns who'll have their eyes firmly on the title.

Ones to watch...

Scheduled play kicks off at 3pm with a tasty looking encounter to rival Alcaraz & Zverev between top junior Charlie Beales (no.10 seed) and the ever-crafty and unpredictable OC Team 4/5 'er' Sam Foster .

Hot on their heels at 4.30pm is a tricky looking match-up for no.13 seed Joe Reeve against last year's giant-killer Laurent Balerdi .

George Hope vs. David Winks promises to be a close one at 6pm, before no. 2 seed Tom Fenton and no. 4 seed Joe Weiland enter the fray in the night session at 7.30pm against Rob Green and Michael Feeney respectively.

What else is on?

The Men's French Open final , Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev will be live on the big screen in the clubhouse, with drinks, patisseries, cheese and wine courtesy of your wonderful Social Sec. Virunee.

Saturday's highlights

Unperturbed by a squirrel wanting to join in play on court 1, the theme of today was close matches and juniors pitting their wits against wily seniors.

Luke Baylis took one for the OC Junior Academy, battling past Mark Cheung in a final set champ tiebreak. The seniors then struck back, with Tariq Khatri edging a final set champ tiebreak against Matteo Cranchi and Michael Feeney ending the hopes of Neel Sood with an accomplished performance.

The match of the day, however, belonged in the Women's Singles, with Leslie Van Ruyskensvelde battling back from losing the first set 6-1 against Anna Leslie , to take the next set 6-4 and the champ tiebreak 10-7. Congrats!

Scheduling

A reminder that if you are unable to play a match on the scheduled date, and you have not previously notified us, you run the risk of forfeiting the match if the schedule does not allow for an alternative date for the match to be played. All players should report to the referee's desk in the clubhouse 10 minutes before they are due to play. You will be assigned a court on the day, when you report in.
