Day 11 Championship Results and FINALS Day Order of Play

It was a real privilege to be the match reporter for the semi-finals on a beautiful summer’s evening.

First to get going were Tom Fenton (2) and Daf James(4). With the No 1 seed out, this was a great opportunity for both players. Punishing baseline rallies, exhausting just to watch, were the order of the day, but in the end Daf’s impressive consistency won the day and he went through 6-1, 6-3.

In the other men’s semi, Lewis Henderson (6) looked to be cruising to a comfortable win until I started watching, from 5-1 down, Jed Blacknell (7) launched an impressive fight-back and came close to forcing a CT, but in the end, went down 6-3. 6-4. Lewis, still young enough to get away with wearing his baseball cap the wrong way round, gets my shot of the day, with a dreamy cross-court drop volley on match point.

Meanwhile, a battle royale was taking place between Adam Burgis and Charlie Casey on Court 8 in the Mens’ 50+ singles. It looked as though Charlie, in his fluorescent attire might dazzle his opponent into submission, but the man in black held firm to take it in the Champ’s Tie-Break. A great effort from Charlie against the reigning men’s champion.

In the ladies’ 50+ event, Vicky Flind had stated her desire for a quick match given the sultry conditions, but was still on court 90 minutes later, encountering stiff resistance from Anna Leslie, before winning 6-1, 6-4.

On Court 2, there was an excellent ladies’ doubles match between Virunee Viravong and Amy Sergeant & Emma Michell and Jess Moody (aka ‘The Chuckle Sisters’). The latter’s excellent net play unsettled the higher ranked pair, but in the end, they were defeated 6-3, 6-2. It felt closer.

Finally, those who stayed late were rewarded with a highly entertaining mixed doubles match pitting Tom and Virunee & Joe Reeve and Amy against each other. There were some wonderful rallies, but the former pair put on a master class to take it 6-1. 6-2.

A fantastic evening’s tennis with the promise of some wonderful finals tomorrow.

PS: thank you to the women’s 6th team for fine food and drink!

Tomorrow’s Finals Day starts at 10.30 with the Juniors. These are often some of the most entertaining matches of the day - come down early to see the stars of the future.

At 12pm we move to the Mens’ Singles final; we’re guaranteed to see a new winner.

Following that, at 1.30pm it’s the continuation of last year's Pulford / Viravong rivalry in the Women’s Singles.

Alongside these there will be the full suite of doubles and +50 finals.

Manjit will be in charge at the bar, Bob on the BBQ and they’ve set a target of £5,000 to be raised for OC Clubhouse ‘26.

Follow it all live on the Finals Day Live Feed on the Old College Whatsapp.
