Andrew Rutherford

Dear Members,

We are sad to let you know that Andrew Rutherford passed away peacefully last Friday. At 89, Andrew was the oldest active player in the club, playing much more tennis than golf in recent years. Despite a serious blood condition, Andrew was active on the tennis court and a regular at weekday ‘drop in’ sessions until early this year. However his condition worsened rapidly in recent weeks, and he had to undergo regular treatment at Kings. However he was very glad to be at home last Thursday, and died very peacefully that night.

Andrew was a noted athlete (100 yards in 10 seconds) and was one of the founders of a major ad agency (WCRS – Andrew was the ‘R’). There he composed the poster for the 1979 election: Labour isn’t working. He also opened his garden in the Village every year. It was a major gardening and social event.

Our thoughts are with his wife Ann and his family. We don't yet know the funeral arrangements but will circulate these to members when they are known.

On behalf of the Club Committee
