OC Club Champs. 2024 - Weds 12th (Day 5) Order of Play

Dear all,

Fuelled by an evening of bangers and mash courtesy of OC Women’s 5th Team (huge thanks!), tomorrow serves up a real mix of action, with Men’s and Women’s Singles matches, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles in an action-packed schedule.

Ones to watch...

Will the winning streak of the seeds continue, or could Day 5 be the day the first seeds fall?

Coach Luke Hymas will certainly be hoping for the latter, as he teams up with promising juniors Dominique Brooks and Finlay Brown in the Mixed and Men’s doubles respectively. Lying in wait at 6.30pm are the no. 6 seeds and dark horses of the Mixed draw Phil Harper and Amy Sergeant , and at 7.30pm are Men’s No. 6 seeds Messrs. Pearson and Sedcole (Jr.) - hoping to be as united on the court as in their first names (ahem).

Elsewhere, at 8pm there’s a tricky looking opening match for Men’s Doubles no.3 seeds James Gubb and Joe Reeve against top OC Junior Academy players Charlie Beales (no. 10 seed in singles) and Matteo Cranchi . No.11 seed in the Men’s Singles Joe Tyndall can expect a stern test from Charlie’s brother, Matthew Beales ; as can no. 5 seed Stan Ntchouissi from OC Team 3 stalwart Hugh Moran .

Tuesday's highlights

‘Ladies and gentlemen, due to rain play is suspended’ was uttered for the first time, causing postponement of the second round of hard-court matches.

That didn’t stop an entertaining evening of cheeseballs behind the bar (sooo tasty!) and bagels on the court as four first round matches were won without reply.

Bucking the trend was OC Men’s 3rd team captain Daniel Ajegbo and new member Sid Lal who battled for nigh on 2.5hrs, wowing a burgeoning crowd on court 6 with gruelling rallies, long games and some fantastic shot play. Daniel eventually triumphed 6-4, 6-4. Congrats!

Scheduling

A reminder that if you are unable to play a match on the scheduled date, and you have not previously notified us, you run the risk of forfeiting the match if the schedule does not allow for an alternative date for the match to be played. All players should report to the referee's desk in the clubhouse 10 minutes before they are due to play. You will be assigned a court on the day, when you report in.
